GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- A woman fatally shot at a funeral in Goldsboro this week had a 7-month-old child with the man being mourned, family members said.
Sharon Nichole Sheppard was attending the funeral of her live-in boyfriend Raheim Antwon Kornegay when she was killed Thursday. Kornegay, 23, was shot to death Sunday, and police said Sheppard was a "person of interest" in the crime.
Kornegay's mother, Rosetta Stevens, said she believed Sheppard was shot in revenge for her son's death. Both had children from previous relationships.
"I just wish everybody would let it go," Stevens said. "And now, because people were trying to retaliate for something, these children don't have a mother or a father right now. I'm really scared for everybody."
Police said Friday that no arrests have been made in either shooting.
About 300 mourners were leaving a funeral home Thursday when Sheppard was shot. People rushed back into the building screaming about gunshots outside, said the Rev. Ernie Haskins, funeral director at McIntyre Funeral Home.
"The service had concluded and the family was leaving the chapel," Haskins said. "I heard gunshots ring out."
Investigations into both shootings were ongoing, said Sgt. Chad Calloway of the Goldsboro Police Department.
"We feel there should be witnesses, at least in the second case," he said.
