NEPTUNE, N.J. -- Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith remained hospitalized Monday, two days after he was ejected from his sport utility vehicle during a crash, officials said.
Smith, 21, hurt his left shoulder and got numerous scratches and bruises when the SUV he was driving went through a stop sign and overturned after colliding with a car at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Millstone Township, said state police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones. Smith's passenger, Andre Bell, remained in critical condition Monday, hospital spokesman John Shaffer said.
Nuggets spokesman Eric Sebastian said he did not know when Smith might be released.
"I think it's too early to say," Sebastian said. "From everything we hear, he's going to be OK."
Sebastian said he did not know if Smith would miss any training, but added, "We didn't hear anything that would indicate his career would be jeopardized in any way."
Bell, 21, of East Orange, suffered a severe head injury and is in a coma, Jones said. Neither Smith nor Bell was wearing seat belts and both were ejected from the SUV, he said.
Smith has been issued two traffic tickets for failure to stop at stop sign and improper passing, Jones said. Both carry fines, though the amount was not immediately available.
The two people in the car had only minor injuries.
NOW I HEARD THAT THIS WAS HIS, LIKE, 2nd ACCIDENT THIS YEAR SO FAR. DAMN DUDE GET A DRIVER OR SOMETHING. FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD ON THIS STORY HE WENT AROUND A CAR THAT WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR IN AN INTERSECTION. JUST....CRAZY! IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE PROPERLY THEN STAY OFF THE DAMN ROAD!
Now this don't make no goddamn sense! I'm with ThikChik. If you don't know what you're doing, then stay your ass off the road. Where the hell did he have to be that he couldn't use proper driving techniques. Going around someone at a stop sign is a set up to get your ass killed because just like he went through the stop sign, another car from another direction could've had the same method of thinking and everybody would've been dead on impact. But his boy is in a coma. Isn't it considered vehicular manslaughter if he dies, God forbid?
WOW. It is a miracle his license has not been suspended. They need to make him take some driving classes becasue it doesn't seem like he knows what he is doing.
WOW! I guess he'll definitely learn something from this accident. I hope his friend is pulls through. Why the hell were neither of them wearing seat belts? That's ridiculous.
