(MYFOX NATIONAL) - More information has come out about how Richard Jefferson called off his wedding to Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols . Jefferson has said that he ended the relationship with the former Nets dancer Nichols through e-mail.

The NY Post reports that Jefferson, a former New Jersey Net currently signed with the San Antonio Spurs, explained that the e-mail was sent after a tense Fourth of July weekend between the couple. The $500,000 wedding was supposed to take place Saturday in New York City at the posh Mandarin Oriental hotel. See a photo of the couple .

"There was a lot of stress and tension in the relationship. We've been through a lot -- but we just couldn't continue," said Jefferson to The Post which added that he sounded upset during the telephone interview.

"Sometimes you might write an e-mail to get your thoughts down right," he explained. The e-mail was followed by a long telephone call.

As a parting gift Jefferson said that he is giving Nichols ( see Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols' photos ) a "six-figure" settlement so she can start a new life. The couple was together for nearly five years.

Rumors have dogged Jefferson regarding his sexual preference for a few years, which some have jumped to as a reason for the breakup and canceled wedding. He insisted a rumor that he's gay had nothing to do with the breakup.

"I'm not gay," Jefferson said to The Post. "That couldn't be any further from the truth. I have nothing to hide."

Some other high profile break-ups have also gone the modern route through e-mail or text message. Examiner.com lists five celebrity texting break-ups, including Britney Spears saying good-bye to Kevin Federline ; Jessica Simpson getting dumped by Alex Levine in 2006; and John Mayer texting Jennifer Aniston to call it quits.

Wow!  He called it quits via email.  That's about as shitty as sending it via text.  I can't believe this is the "norm" nowadays.  Communication is so important in a relationship, yet it is being run by technological gadgets such as computers and cell phones.  I had no idea that people were using these things as a major form of communication when discussing serious issues in their relationships.  That's simply sad.  I saw it happen with my own eyes with my best friend earlier this year, and I jumped in her shit for "talking" to her friend about something serious in their relationship via text messages.  I couldn't believe that was acceptable for her, but after reading this, it just proves that 1. people cannot accept rejection too well, and they can possibly deal with a break-up better via text or email, and 2. people would rather take the coward road to avoid dealing with their significant other's feelings.  They don't have to worry about ever seeing that person again, or all of the "we can work it out" speeches.  I think it's selfish and heartless myself.  How can you say you're in love with someone that you can't even sit face-to-face with and discuss your relationship?   Yet you talk about getting married.  I can't even begin to wrap my head around it all.  What nails the coffin for Richard  Jefferson is the fact that this guy "settles" with her for six-figures.  WTF type of shit is that? People have absolutely no compassion when it comes to another person's feelings.  Five years and that's the best he could do.  Pay her off.  Wow.

All of that should have been talked about and handled in person I think. But I can't put the blame completely on him because she allowed them to have "a long telephone convo". I mean if you feel like you need to use an email to say more than so be it but that would be after we talked face to face. Breaking up or even mentioning anything about the relatioinship that serious shouldn't be in an email and out of no where at that. Now afterwards, that shit might go straight to the trash but hey, I probably said everything I needed to say when we talked face to face like I was supposed to LOL! People who use text messages and emails for conversation like that are trying to hide and don't have the guts to say these things to your face. But hopefully both can move on and be happy.
