Although Eva Longoria's representatives were scrambling Tuesday to shoot down rumors (via TMZ) of an impending divorce from San Antonio Spurs basketball star Tony Parker, People magazine reported Wednesday that the "Desperate Housewives" actress did indeed file divorce papers in Los Angeles Superior Court. TMZ quickly confirmed the story, posting copies of the documents to the website wherein Eva Longoria cites "irreconcilable differences" for the filing.

The divorce filing comes in the midst of cheating rumors. Tabloids and gossip websites have been pushing stories of Parker's alleged infidelity for some time, including allegations that there was cheating going on just after he and Longoria married in 2008. Both Parker and Longoria denied that there was anything between Parker and French model Alexandra Paressant, although insinuations lingered.

The current divorce situation seems to have arisen from discovered cell phone text messages, according to Us Weekly. The magazine reported a source that revealed Parker had been caught " exchanging personal texts with a mutual female friend for nearly a year -- hundreds in just one month."

One insider, the magazine attests, claimed that Eva Longoria confronted her husband about the texts and he admitted to their "inappropriateness."

"Eva truly thought she was going to grow old with Tony and have children with him," the source told Us Weekly. "She's inconsolable."

Extra reported that they confirmed the actress had found "hundreds of text messages" on Parker's phone. Those text messages appear to have been between Parker and a Spurs teammate's wife. Extra's Mario Lopez, who is a friend of Longoria's, reported that the actress was "devastated by the rumors of infidelity."

People also reported that Longoria was "completely blindsided" by the cheating reports.

An indication that nothing seemed amiss was the lavish birthday party Longoria threw for her husband in mid-May. They celebrated their third wedding anniversary three months later by taking an Adriatic cruise with family and friends.

The box for spousal support on the divorce documents was checked by Longoria. Her petition notes that she is agreeable to pay her own attorneys while Parker pays his.

The couple, who have had a 7-year relationship and were married in July 2007, have a prenuptial agreement that was signed prior to the marriage and amended in 2008. It is unclear what bearing the agreement might have on the final adjudication of the divorce, but many such agreements have philandering and/or infidelity clauses that would legally abrogate or legally bind the signers to the the agreement(s) stipulated.

Wow.  Tony Parker is allegedly cheating on Eva with a teammate's wife.  I wonder who this woman is.    I had just heard earlier today about Eva and her people squashing "rumors" of an impending divorce, but I'll be damned if two hours later, the story had broke that she was indeed filing for irreconciliable differences.  Um, um, um.  Well, I wish them both the best.
