LOS ANGELES (TICKER) -- Kobe Bryant's trade demand apparently is back on.
The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday that the unhappy superstar told owner Jerry Buss that he would like to be traded by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, the newspaper reported Bryant asked to be traded in an "emotional" conversation with Buss while in Spain on vacation. Bryant again voiced concerns over the direction of the franchise, according to the report.
Last month, Bryant admitted in an interview on 1050 ESPN Radio that he had requested a trade. But he later backtracked on that demand after talking with coach Phil Jackson.
Two weeks ago, Buss released a statement in which he said the team would build around Bryant.
"We will continue to pursue every avenue possible to improve our team with him as the cornerstone," the statement said.
A perennial All-Star, two-time scoring champion and generally regarded as the most talented player in the league, Bryant is frustrated with his team's back-to-back first-round playoff losses to the Phoenix Suns.
The two defeats - and a season where the Lakers did not qualify for the playoffs - all have come in the three campaigns since superstar center Shaquille O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat, who won their first championship with O'Neal in 2006.
Inevitably, the O'Neal-Bryant feud was revisited. Despite winning three consecutive championships as teammates, the superstar duo's relationship was strained and the pair did not talk to each other for an extended period until recently patching up their differences.
Bryant also was "beyond frustrated" after reading a report that stated a "team source" intimated in the Los Angeles Times that he was the reason O'Neal was traded following the 2003-04 season.
The superstar guard, who signed a seven-year, $136 million contract one day after O'Neal left, later told the Philadelphia Inquirer that it could not be further from the truth.
Bryant, who will turn 29 years old in August, has four years remaining on his contract that he could void after two years.
smdh.......again, huh? All of that whining to get Shaq out of there (allegedly) so that he could be the number one man, and now he's ready to jump ship. I wonder if Jerry Buss will trade him. I wonder if he's willing to come East.
he really needs to make up his mind...i use to be behind kobe 150% but now im elsewhere...hes selfish and now his ways have caught up to him causing frustrations between him and his team mates...he wanted the lakers all to himself and now that he has it he doesnt kno how to react to it...i guess he thought that when they were winning the championships it was all him but there no i in team and now its slapping him in the face which is good for him
