December 17, 2007.MediaTakeOut.com is sad to report to you that rapper Lil Mama, whose real name is Niatia Jessica Kirkland, suffered a terrible loss over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Lil Mama's mother passed away.
Tyra Kirkland (Lil Mama's mother) was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and had been valiantly fighting the disease ever since.
Lil Mama received the news of her mother's passing while at an Atlanta concert. She immediately returned to New York to be with family.

This is just soooo sad. My heart goes out to her and her siblings. What a sad way to find out too and right before the holidays
Aw man this is sad. It's been quite a sad holiday for a lot of folks in the industry this year. May she rest in peace and may God bless Lil Mama and her family.
