The former Bethel High star funds scholarships at Johnson C. Smith and Bowie State.
Denver Nuggets All-Star guard Allen Iverson donated $35,000 for college scholarships during the CIAA tournament in Charlotte, N.C.
The funds pay for endowed scholarships that Iverson and his wife, Tawanna, set up at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte and Bowie State, both of which are members of the Hampton-based Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Iverson, who attended Hampton's Bethel High and Georgetown University, also has funded scholarships at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, also a CIAA member.
The presentation last week was made during a break in action of the CIAA basketball championship game on Saturday by Gary Moore, Iverson's business manager. Moore is president of Crossover Promotions, Iverson's charitable foundation.
I'm starting to give lil dude from Newport Bad News a little more respect. At least somebody is giving back to the HBCU's in addition to Tom Joyner. Kudos to both he and Tawanna.
