Allen Iverson is contemplating retirement if he doesn't rejoin the Grizzlies, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Iverson has been granted an indefinite leave of absence to deal with an unspecified "family matter," and Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley continues to defend his mercurial star. A.I. has said before that he'd rather retire than come off the bench, so this could be the bitter final chapter in his Hall of Fame career.
I think this will be the best decision for him, IF this is what he is pondering. Right now, it's sort of like a rumor, but I guess we'll know by the end of the week what his plans are. Hopefully, he's spending this time at home discussing this issue with Tawanna and hopefully, she's helping him make the right decision (which I still say should be retirement, LOL).
AI is a great player but he's no longer 21 years of age. 34 is old as dirt in the NBA, and it's just time to hang up the Reeboks. Go spend some time with the family. Perhaps travel for the next year, then maybe try to come back and be an Analyst or something. I'm pretty sure it's a tough decision but....at least he won't have to worry about his "lack of playing time" anymore.
