The wife of former NBA star Allen Iverson has re-filed for divorce, an attorney told the AJC.
Tawanna Iverson initially filed for divorce March 2, 2010, in Fulton County Superior Court, citing that her marriage was “irretrievably broken.” The announcement came a week after Allen Iverson announced he was leaving the Philadelphia 76ers for the rest of the season to be with a sick daughter. The couple has five children.
That divorce petition was later dropped, Allen Iverson's attorney, Jonathan Levine, told the AJC Wednesday afternoon. But on Monday, Tawanna Iverson re-filed for divorce, said Levine, who declined to discuss the specifics regarding the initial filing.
Tawanna Iverson's attorney, John Mayoue, was unavailable for comment.
Allen Iverson, a former NBA scoring champ and all-star, is currently playing professional basketball in Turkey. He has said publicly he would like to return to the NBA to finish his career.
On March 30, he was a passenger in his own 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago that was stopped by Atlanta police for switching lanes without signaling. Iverson became irate and shouted expletives at the police officer, according to a report obtained by the AJC.
The Lamborghini had a dealer tag, despite being owned by the basketball star for two years, and a tow truck was called.
"Take the vehicle, I have 10 more," he reportedly told the officer at the scene. "Police don't have anything else [expletive] to do except [expletive] with me. ... Do you know who I am?"
Iverson's vehicle remained in an impound lot Wednesday, Officer Kim Jones with Atlanta police told the AJC.
This is just too much for me! And the rumors surrounding it all are ridiculous! I guess Tawanna is just fed up with his behind, but someone made a good comment on another web site that I was reading earlier. It's possible that Tawanna's lawyer had her retract her petition for divorce until this year because their 10-year anniversary is coming up in August. I don't know how true this is because there are different laws for each state, but someone said if you've been married 10 years, you're eligible for full benefits such as social security, insurance and any other forms of benefits that he currently has. If this is the case, then she has a good lawyer.
I feel bad for the kids because they are caught up in the middle of it all. I just hope they keep it as clean and out of the media as possible. And he KNOWS better with that Lambo he got. For goodness sake, go and get the car out of the impound lot! And pay the backpay for the car tags.
AI is just going through all kinds of stuff... Did he get kicked off the team in Turkey or is he not playing because he's injured?.. but hopefully they get everything straightened out as private as possible for the kids' sake
I don't think he got kicked off the team. I just wouldn't be surprised if he decided not to exercise that second-year option in Turkey. I know he REALLY wants to play in the NBA again, but unless someone is willing to take a chance on him, I doubt it'll happen.
